Most Excellent Southernpots.com Pottery Update for Your Christmas Selection Gifts

Special Christmas & Holiday Greetings to My Fellow Southern Pots Fans!

This pottery offering update is strong as usual in some contemporary potters, such as Billy Ray Hussey, Stacy Lambert, and the usual nice selection from the CV (i.e. Charlie, Walter, Steve, Michel, & Mike Ball). Also I have added a monumental Earl and other neat Catawba Indian Pottery. Even a bit of Cherokee. The GA collectors have not been neglected, as there is a nice decorated set of Clint Jugs. And an incredible Mud Creek Rooster.

For the antique collector, there’s an awesome Harvey Reinhardt (attr) swirl mug, and a beautiful LSR (attr) 5 G 2 Handle Jug.

I am most proud of a Face Jar now offered on southernpots.com, turned by my potter friend Chad Smith. Brian Demond, Jason Harpe, and Dawn Crouse, hosted the unveiling of their newly published book, Valley Ablaze: Pottery Tradition in the Catawba Valley, this past Sunday in Lincolnton, NC. Brian chose this face jar, amongst other Chad pots, to be featured in the section about Chad.

Also I will note, that a second potter, Matt Hallyburton, that has been represented on the website, was accepted for the first time this past March into our favorite pottery festival in Hickory (i.e. CV Pottery Festival and also the largest & most prestigious southern pottery festival in the country). He sold quite well and I have a real eye-appealing 2 Handle Saddle Jug by Matt available for you. He employed Burlon’s glass glaze on the jug.

Re: shipping before Christmas, I know this is short notice, but please touch base with me today or tomorrow. The best way would be to send me an email if there was some additional special request or question. Also re: checkout, I would prefer that either you use Paypal, or you can drop me a check in the mail (i.e. please send me an email if that is preferred). You can use your CC with my website designer’s checkout system, but I can’t then turn around as quickly and tap those funds to seek other special southern pots for you!

A Very Happy New Year to All!

Which Potter Turned Which Jug? Kim Ellington or Matt Hallyburton

Yesterday at Kim Ellington’s Christmas opening, where he the past several years has been turning out face jugs for the sale, I observed the incredible similarity in glaze finish to a recently fired by Matt Hallyburton. Kim normally has 1-2 jugs that are not faces at this sale (or any kiln opening). He had 5-6 plain jugs. Hardly plain in eye-appeal. But it was remarkable that both glaze finish with the touch of glass, turned out so strikingly similar in both jugs.  Kim’s jug is on the left and Matt’s on the right!

Group Pottery Expedition to Michel Bayne’s Kiln Opening June 24th!

Mr. Barry of Ohio, who has a genetic mutation (we have done testing w/ out his knowledge) for Stacy pottery, collector Mike of OH’s son Adam, Stacy, and I went on an expedition to Michel Bayne’s 2nd kiln opening since his arrival in the CV!  Well-attended and Michel was pleased with the results.  What a wonderful day of southern pottery hangout and comradery.  Brian and Kris let us stop prior to the opening for a little tour of his collection and we thank him!  Thanks to Barry for organizing our little expedition to the CV!   I will note that in the px of the Dedmond tribe that beloved fellow collector Diane Aurit makes an appearance!

Charles Lisk Pottery Kiln Opening

Yesterday there was an overly impressive turnout for a Charlie Lisk kiln opening. He had done swirl for the first time in more than a decade. Word had spread, so there were a lot of people there. More people than pots so a number of collectors went home empty-handed. There were about 20 half gallon swirl pieces. Also a number of small faces and mini faces and The “tripod” pig family and went second or third pick. Thanks to Brian Dedmond for comments which I incorporated here.

Kim Ellington Catawba Valley Pottery Kiln Opening

Thanks Brian for sharing these pictures from this past weekend.  The swirl is of particular note since it has been a decade or more since Kim has turned swirl.  Also a bonus 3 face jugs were offered.  One pictured before on southernpotsblog was featured last night.

Hart Square Kim Ellington Catawba Valley Pottery Face Jug

Kim had a great sale on this past Saturday. He fired swirl for the first time in maybe 15-20 years in the Hart Square Kiln. Huge crowd. I’ll post some pictures of the pots when Brian forwards them to me. But I will post this picture of 1/3 face jugs that were at the sale. Great face jug by Kim!
