Over the past week I have added some neat new stuff. Sorry to say that the Burlon Craig, Steve Abee, Marie Rogers, and Matt Hallyburton have already sold, but there will be more! Thanks so much!
On my travels this weekend I picked up two excellent examples of North Carolina pottery. One is a 4-5 G mustache jug by Burlon Craig and then a double handled key stamp 5 G jug by Donkel Brothers.
Yesterday there was an overly impressive turnout for a Charlie Lisk kiln opening. He had done swirl for the first time in more than a decade. Word had spread, so there were a lot of people there. More people than pots so a number of collectors went home empty-handed. There were about 20 half gallon swirl pieces. Also a number of small faces and mini faces and The “tripod” pig family and went second or third pick. Thanks to Brian Dedmond for comments which I incorporated here.
Thanks Brian for sharing these pictures from this past weekend. The swirl is of particular note since it has been a decade or more since Kim has turned swirl. Also a bonus 3 face jugs were offered. One pictured before on southernpotsblog was featured last night.
Please check out the expanded history section describing an overview of the connections between the upstate SC potters and western NC potters.
On Ebay at the moment is a fabulous piece of Catawba Indian pottery. To give full disclosure I have bid some. 6 days to go. We’ll see where it ends up.
A sugar and creamer has appeared on Ebay, dating from 1957. Truly a rare and wonderful combination of pottery
At Perry’s auction on July 4th (unfortunately I missed the fun), much great pottery was sold. Only one I know the result of is the 4 G DS. The link to the pictures is below.
Steve turned and fired some pots for yesterday’s kiln opening. Thank you to Brian for sharing the pictures!
